Mindful Art Practice

Start your mindfulness journey with art

Whether intentional or not, art is transformative, even if it is only in the moments of creation.  From my experience, I’ve come to believe while creating art our mood can be transformed, our body language changes, our concentration peeks and our thoughts slow down and become noticeably quieter. It becomes natural to slow down and be careful and thoughtful as we piece together ideas and concepts that turn into something unique and connected to our current state of mind. The benefits of this is the acceptance that in that moment the process of creating something is the end in itself. Whether there is an ending or not, you are able to become fully present in that moment.

Art gave me space to be uninhibited, free and liberated from feelings that kept me in a constant state of worry. From this, I realized that there is power in art and there is power in creativity. While creating, I felt unrestricted and my feelings of worry were changed to a focus on possibility. As accidental and randomly placed marks on a canvas take shape, new feelings of trust and ease are sprouted.

I encourage you to find ways to make art a part of your mindfulness journey so that you can discover how the process of creating art can be meditative and transformative.
